How Search Engines Work?
« on: October 20, 2010, 09:39:24 PM »
I want to know the working system of all the search engines. I am also keen on knowing the best way to get on the top of major SE. If I get to understand the factors that are considered by Google, Yahoo and MSN, it would be easy for me to work on my website to get the best position on SERPs. I asked many SEO consultants. All I came to know is that search engines keep changing their standards for determining the page rank for the websites. Is this true? If yes, then how will I be successful?

Every search engine has its own spider. Google has Googlebot. These spider will visit your website and crawl information about your site and it will be stored in search engine database. They use different type of algorithms for crawling over the web pages. When user enters a query and searches for it in a crawler based search engine like Google, it goes to the storage of the previously mentioned results and find the suitable pages for the user's query. Then it arranges the web pages in order some factors like page rank, views, relevancy etc.,

Google's search engine is a powerful tool. Without search engines like Google, it would be practically impossible to find the information you need when you browse the Web. Like all search engines, Google uses a special algorithm to generate search results. Google uses automated programs called spiders or crawlers.

There are three basic stages for a search engine: crawling – where content is discovered; indexing, where it is analysed and stored in huge databases; and retrieval, where a user query fetches a list of relevant pages.

The search engines need a way to “crawl” the entire city and find all the stops along the way, so they use the best path available—links. Crawling and indexing the billions of documents, pages, files, news, videos, and media on the World Wide Web.

Yes, absolutely agree with all of you. In order to make it works, there are certain ""rules"" such as on-page/off-page optimization and design. I want to focus on the design because most often this important part is missing. With design help you can easily improve your ranking etc. It isn't necessary to hire a specialist. You can do it by yourself. Setup a new template as I always do. Recommend this awesome wordpress portfolio themes. It works, believe me.

Without search engines, content will be raised by hand - such as newspapers and magazines ... There are three basic steps for a search engine: Crawling - where content is searched; Indexing, where it is analyzed and stored in a large database; And recovery, where a user query brings a list of relevant pages.
