I need to know this because I want to persue a career in freelance web design. When finding clients, do you keep your clients permanently (if they like your work) or is it all part-time or shirt-term? Are there any people with experience who can help?

Web design typically refers to the process of designing a web site or web page layout and often includes the graphical elements on a page. The design can be developed using a graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop, and provides the framework for the look and feel of a web page.
Web development is typically used to described the programming required to construct the "back end" of a website. The back end is the area of the site that isn't seen by visitors, but which does the work required in order to present the right information in the correct format to the visitors.

Graphic design and web development are two distinct disciplines within the broader field of digital design and technology. While both are involved in creating visually appealing and functional digital products, they have different focuses and skill sets. Here are the key differences between graphic design and web development:

Graphic Design:

Focus: Graphic design primarily focuses on creating visual concepts and designs for various media, including print, digital, and multimedia platforms.
Purpose: Graphic designers aim to communicate messages and ideas through visual elements, such as typography, images, illustrations, and color schemes.
Output: Graphic design work is often used for branding, marketing materials, advertisements, packaging, book covers, logos, brochures, and other static visual content.
Tools: Graphic designers commonly use tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, CorelDRAW, and other design software to create their artworks.
Skills: They need to have a keen eye for aesthetics, an understanding of color theory, typography, layout design, and the ability to convey emotions or messages through visuals.
Responsibilities: Graphic designers collaborate with clients and stakeholders to understand their design needs, create concepts, present drafts, and refine designs based on feedback.

Web Development:

Focus: Web development primarily focuses on building and maintaining websites and web applications that are interactive, functional, and accessible.
Purpose: Web developers aim to bring the design and functionality to life, ensuring that the website or web application works smoothly and provides a positive user experience.
Output: Web development work includes coding, scripting, and programming for websites, web apps, and web-based systems.
Tools: Web developers use programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks or libraries like React, Angular, Vue.js, and others.
Skills: They need to be proficient in programming languages, understand web standards, accessibility, responsive design, and user interface (UI) principles.
Responsibilities: Web developers collaborate with designers, clients, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, write code to implement the design, test for bugs, and optimize performance.
In summary, graphic design is primarily concerned with creating visually appealing and communicative designs across various media, while web development focuses on implementing interactive and functional websites and web applications through coding and programming. Both disciplines often work together closely on web projects, where graphic designers create the visual design, and web developers bring those designs to life by coding the functional aspects.
