Web_news

Hi,

I have recently started receiving the following two alerts from cPanel:

Account: dovecot
Resource: Process Time
Exceeded: 31883 > 1800 (seconds)
Executable: /usr/libexec/dovecot/auth
Command Line: dovecot/auth
PID: 30873 (Parent PID:30861)
Killed: No

Account: dovecot
Resource: Process Time
Exceeded: 31883 > 1800 (seconds)
Executable: /usr/libexec/dovecot/anvil
Command Line: dovecot/anvil
PID: 30868 (Parent PID:30861)
Killed: No

Does anyone know if there is any issue with server or can I ignore this alerts?

Thanks!

Kailash

This is not generated by cPanel but they are generated by CSF (CnfigserverSecurity&Firewall). Add following lines in csf.pignore file (usually in /etc/csf directory) and restart csf service:

exe:/usr/libexec/dovecot/anvil
exe:/usr/libexec/dovecot/auth

After adding your mentioned line in csf.pignore file, those alerts are stopped now. Thank you for your great help!

Great to have this useful information, I must apply it when I use CnfigserverSecurity & Firewall.

We can also reduce the number of days to store the data in Eximstat database. Sometime, it is corrupted and causing the issue as well.

If you are using CSF firewall then please prefer to make changes in csf.pignore  files only, it will fix your issue.

Hey
These events are telling you that the dovecot process is running too much time (by system opinion) and that can be a problem.
It's surely not, because Dovecot is an IMAP/POP3 mail server and should be running all the time, so you can safely ignore that events.

If you need more information about server performance issues investigation you can take a look at this article.
