A 301 redirect is an HTTP status code sent by a web server to a browser. A 301 signals a permanent redirect from one URL to another, meaning all users that request an old URL will be automatically sent to a new URL. A 301 redirect passes all ranking power from the old URL to the new URL, and is most commonly used when a page has been permanently moved or removed from a website.

301 Redirect is used when you want to redirect one page to another page permanently. This means if visitors click on the old URL address they will be redirected to the new version of the page. We can use 301 redirect if we want to remove a page or redirect that page to update version of the same page. When you use 301 redirect it passes all the link equity of the previous page to the new URL page.

There are many reasons to use 301 redirect like rewriting URL (SEO Optimized), rebuilding old content, moving a website or content from one domain to another domain, to prevent duplicate content, etc.
